Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi has urged young people to embrace alternative sources of livelihood as a way of ending recurring insecurity in the region.

Speaking during the official opening of the Kabarnet Empowerment Centre, Cheboi lauded the national government for its efforts in combating banditry, noting that the area is now relatively peaceful. He encouraged the youth to take advantage of opportunities in technology, innovation, and talent development instead of engaging in activities that fuel insecurity.

Deputy Governor Eng. Felix Kipng’ok echoed the governor’s sentiments, stressing that for insecurity to be eradicated completely, young people must move away from traditional income-generating methods such as reliance on livestock, which has often been a source of conflict.

The county government has established Youth Empowerment Centres to promote sustainable development among the youth. The centres are equipped with meeting facilities, a recording studio, a computer lab, and indoor games, as part of a broader plan to create a supportive environment for youth-led enterprises to thrive.

Cheboi urged the youth to make full use of the centre to improve their livelihoods and also safeguard it to ensure it serves its intended purpose.
