Early reports suggest that this site is linked to the same or similar religious cult networks operating in the region. At least 11 individuals are under investigation as the police intensify efforts to uncover the truth and prevent further loss of life.
The newly discovered graves were found not far from the site of the Shakahola Massacre, where more than 400 bodies were exhumed in 2023, mostly belonging to followers of a cult led by controversial preacher Paul Mackenzie. Victims were said to have been coerced into fasting to death under the guise of spiritual salvation.
The latest discovery has reawakened public fear and frustration over how such extremist ideologies continue to fester in rural parts of Kenya, often under the radar.
