Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has dismissed speculation about joining the Kenya Kwanza administration, declaring that he will instead focus on strengthening his Tawe Movement to unite communities in Western Kenya.

Speaking in Kiminini on Wednesday, Natembeya said the region has long been sidelined in development despite contributing significantly in taxes. He blamed this on leaders who, he claimed, have failed to defend the interests of their people.
“Our vote has only benefitted leaders from other regions who push projects to their backyards,” Natembeya said.

His remarks follow reports that senior Kenya Kwanza figures, including Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, have been lobbying him to shift allegiance.

Natembeya, however, insisted the Luhya community must chart a new political direction.
“We must stop being taken for granted. Only by pushing together can we secure our rightful share of national projects,” he said.

He cited his recent lobbying for promotions in the disciplined forces, which saw locals elevated to senior ranks, as proof that equal treatment is possible.

Natembeya dismissed Kenya Kwanza’s ongoing empowerment initiatives as “a mockery”, saying they provide little tangible benefit.

“How is giving people money, later shared among themselves at Ksh. 20 each, empowerment? That is laughable,” he said, also questioning the source of the funds.

He further accused the government’s tax policies of forcing companies to shut down or relocate, worsening youth unemployment. He also condemned the leasing of 24,000 acres of Nzoia Sugar Company land for 30 years at what he termed a throwaway price.

“That deal was pure corruption. Leaders slept on the job while our people’s property was given away,” Natembeya added.

Former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, who joined Natembeya at the event, backed his call for Western unity. He said divisive politics under Ford Kenya had stifled Bungoma’s development and pledged to support Natembeya’s regional agenda.
